The sailing lifeguard patrol in the Port of Copenhagen

The activities in and around the harbor have steadily increased year by year. The sailing Harbor Hosts, which started in 2019, are a collaboration between  By & Havn and the Municipality of Copenhagen.

The harbour masters are proactive in dealing with inappropriate behaviour and contribute to a safe harbour through dialogue and conversation. Some of the situations the harbour masters encounter in the summer heat are jumping off bridges, bathing outside bathing areas, motorboats driving too fast, barbecues on flammable surfaces, etc. In addition, the harbour masters also supervise bathing areas and harbour baths. Here they can check whether all rescue equipment is ready for use and carry out minor repairs on site if necessary.

The sailing harbour masters are thus ambassadors for the good harbour culture, where safety and security are paramount. They work to make our harbour a good place to be for everyone - regardless of whether you want to swim, sail or have a picnic with friends. The harbour masters are not harbour police and we do not scold, but inform citizens about the dangers they expose themselves and others to if, for example, they swim in the wrong places or sail too fast.
